Neither of these bands can compare as instrumental combination to those of the English, at least according to modern tastes. In the Austrian band there are only two bass instruments (a serpent and a bass trombone) and three tenor instruments (two trombones and one bassoon), whilst in the English band, a better balance is maintained with five bass instruments (four serpents and bass horns and one bass trombone) and five tenor instruments (three bassoons, one ophicleide and one trombone).
